Visa on Arrival
Many nationalities offer visas on arrival in Nepal, including European, American, Australian, Asian, and some African countries. However, travelers can also get a visa from the Nepalese diplomatic mission, such as an embassy or consular office, or also from an online application. Nepal offers a visa-on-arrival service from the following entry points:
- Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu
- Bhairahawa International Airport, Bhairahawa
- Pokhara International Airport (Soon to be operational)
- Overland crossing borders with India and China
Required Documents of Foreign Nationalities for Nepal Visa
- Passport valid for a minimum of 6 months
- Two copies of passport-size photos
- Cash of dollars or Nepali rupees for a visa
- Complete the visa application form, which will be available at the entry point.
- Confirmation of approval for online visa
How to Obtain a Visa on Arrival
- Make sure that the traveler is eligible to have a visa on arrival and just take a flight ticket to Nepal with your minimum six-month validity passport. Hence, here is how you obtain your on-arrival visa at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu:
- There will be a visa application form; you can fill out the application form. You also can fill out the online application form before arrival, which would be valid for 15 days.
- Submit your passport with at least 6 months of validity and a recent passport-size photograph.
- Please mention the purpose of the visit in the application, and the immigration officer might ask you.
- Please pay the visa fee, which will be in major currencies (USD, dollars, euros, pounds, etc.) or Nepali rupees.
Fees and Cost of Visa on Arrival
- 15 days: USD 30 each
- 30 days: USD 50 each
- 90 days: USD 125 each
Visa for Indian and SAARC Countries
- For Indian nationals, a visa is not required, but these travelers need to present their valid IDs, like a passport or voter card.
- SAARC nationals (i.e., Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Pakistan) will get 30 days of free visa on arrival for the first visit in a calendar year. A valid passport must be required.

Tourist Visa Types
- Single entry visa: Same as on-arrival visa
- Multiple entry Visa: an additional fee of USD 20 to upgrade from single entry to multiple entry visa.
- Can be extended up to 150 days from the Department of Immigration of Nepal.
Other Visa Types
- Business visa: for business-related activities in Nepal
- Student Visa: For educational instruction in Nepal, a valid letter of acceptance from the institution of education.

Online visa application for Nepal in advance
Travelers can also get an online visa application in advance or can get one from the local Nepalese diplomatic mission. Respective travelers can visit the nearest embassy or consular offices with the required documents. Here is a brief process for how to apply for the online visa in advance.

Additional Information for Nepal Visa
Travelers need to overstay in Nepal after finishing their visas. Overstaying your visa incurs penalties of USD 5 per day plus a one-time fee of USD 30. If travelers are planning to visit or trekking in restricted areas of Nepal, such as the upper Mustang region, Dolpo region, Manaslu region,Rasuwa, and others, please make sure you have the restricted area’s permits.
