Essential Information

Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek Difficulty Level

Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek is graded as one of the most strenuous and challenging trips, especially fit for hardy trekkers seeking an exhilarating challenge. Rugged terrains, and high altitudes combined with longer trekking hours, therefore, test both physical and mental limits.

The most challenging point is Thorung La Pass, the highest point of the trek, which rises to 5,416 meters, and Larkya La Pass at 5,106 m. The crossing of the pass itself includes steep and rocky paths as well as freezing temperatures. Moreover, the trail covers large areas over 3,000 meters, thus increasing the risk of altitude sickness. Proper acclimatization and preparation will help minimize this risk. During favorable seasons, too, trekking has to be done by steep ascents and descents with narrow trails along rugged landscapes.

Basic physical preparation plays a great role in dealing with these challenges. Regular cardio workouts and strength training are advised in the months prior to the Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek. Along with hiking practice. Equally important is mental readiness for long days and heavy conditions. Trekking slowly, staying hydrated, and following a proper acclimatization schedule will also be very essential in terms of being safer and more pleasant. But despite the challenges, the stunning mountain scenery combined with the cultural encounters and a sense of achievement. Which makes the trek truly unforgettable for those ready to embrace its challenges.

Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek Permits

While trekking in the thrilling and rugged terrains of the Himalayas in Nepal you need to obtain some essential permits. Likewise, you are required to obtain 4 major permits for the Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek such as (Manaslu RAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP Permit), Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP Permit), and TIMS Card.

Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (Manaslu RAP)

Manaslu RAP is a special permit that is required to enter the restricted area of the Manaslu Region. You are required to obtain Manaslu RAP from Jagat until you cross Sama Gaun. It helps to maintain the controlled tourism in the region of Manaslu, maintaining the flow of a number of trekkers. During the peak season, the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit costs USD 100 per person for the first week and an additional USD 15 per person from September to November. However, in the off-season, Manaslu RAP costs USD 75 per person for the first 7 initial days and USD 10 per person for additional days.

Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP Permit)

The Manaslu Conservation Area Project permit is one of the major permits required for the fascinating trek in the Manaslu region. The permits help in the conservation of wildlife and the sustainable development of the area protected by the MCAP. The price of the MCAP permit is constant throughout the year. It costs NRP 3,000 (around USD 25) per person to obtain the MCAP Permit for other nationals than SAARC Nationals. But for trekkers from SAARC Nation the MCAP cost (NPR 1,000 around USD 8) per person.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is required for both Manaslu Circuit Trek and Annapurna Circuit Trek. This permit helps in the conservation of wildlife and the maintenance of the beautiful trails in the region. The (ACAP) costs NPR 1000 (around USD 8) per person for trekkers from the SAARC Nations and for trekkers from non-AARC countries, it costs NPR 3000 (around USD 25) per person.

Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS Card)

You can get this permit from Kathmandu at TAAN headquarters or through trusted trekking operators like Touch Planet Treks. TIMS card cost NPR 2,000 (round USD 16) per trekker. It helps in tracking the movement of the trekkers on the trails throughout the trip through the checkpoints. All the required permits for Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek will be obtained hassle-free after your booking has been confirmed with us.

Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek Travel Insurance

The Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek is an amazing and lifelong memorable trek. However high altitudes and isolated areas require proper preparation in terms of good travel insurance coverage. This trekking takes you above 3,000 meters where unexpected medical emergencies or injuries may need costly helicopter evacuation, so buying comprehensive travel insurance is not optional to safeguard your journey.

While choosing a policy, make sure it covers high-altitude trekking, emergency medical expenses, helicopter rescues, and trip cancellations. Please send your trek itinerary to your insurance provider and make sure all activities mentioned in the itinerary are covered. Proper planning will protect you against unexpected challenges and will make you free to enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas.
