How Difficult is Short Everest View Trekking?

The Short Everest View Trek is a moderately rewarding adventure into the Himalayas and is ideal for both beginners and experienced trekkers. While this trek contains most of the challenges associated with high-altitude trekking, it does remain manageable, offering stunning scenery and great cultural immersion without all of the intense demands of the full Everest Base Camp trekking.

Altitude is among the primary considerations; the trek reaches about 3,880 meters at the Everest View Hotel. Although this is considered to be lower than most of the Himalayan treks, some trekkers might show mild altitude effects, such as breathlessness. A day's acclimatization at Namche Bazaar is scheduled in the itinerary to keep comfort for trekkers.

Every day, we are involved in trekking, which takes 3 to 6 hours walk. Trek through varieties of terrain from rocky pathways to steep ascents. The most strenuous climb would be from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, steep trails leading upwards through forests and across suspension bridges, one of which is the Hillary Bridge. Though the climb is quite strenuous, it is very rewarding because one gets great views of the Himalayas and exposure to Himalayan culture. The trek from Namche down to Lukla is quite long but more manageable because much of the route goes downhill.

The trek requires moderate fitness, though no advanced skills are needed. For frequent walkers and people having basic fitness, it is quite accessible and enjoyable. Stays in local teahouses, with local Himalayan hospitality, ensure rest and camaraderie. Overall, the Short Everest View Trek presents a good mix of achievable adventure with cultural depth. Offering a peek into the beauty of the Everest region.

Best Time for Short Everest View Trek

Choosing the best time for Short Everest View Trek is very important in the case of safety and successful trekking. The weather conditions in the high altitude of Nepal are really unpredictable. Thus, planning should be made for the appropriate seasons.

The best time for the Short Everest View Trek is in the spring which is from March to May. During this time, wildflowers and rhododendrons are in bloom, coloring the adventurous trails with wild beauty. The weather is mild, and the skies are clear, one can see the peaks at their best, including the mighty Mt. Everest. Comfortable temperatures provide pleasant day hikes while the mornings and evenings are cool.

Another great time for the Short Everest View Trek is during the autumn, which usually falls from September to November. During this time of the year, the weather usually gets warm, and the sky is clear, which brings a magnificent view of the Himalayan range. But remember, autumn is the high season, which means busier trails. If you prefer a quiet experience, then late February or early June is perfect because it will be transition periods from winter to spring and spring to summer.

Although it is possible to trek the whole year, the weather from December to January and Jun to August is quite unpredictable and may create more complications during your trip, thus affecting flights to Lukla. Considering all probably positive features of the landscapes and cultural richness of this part of Nepal. The Everest View Short Trek is best undertaken in spring or autumn.

How to Prepare for Short Everest View Trek?

Preparation for a short Everest view trek involves some important steps that make your journey safe and enjoyable. First, getting involved in exercises such as running, walking, and other cardio activities is one of the best ways to train your body before traveling to the high-altitude Khumbu region. Then, get all the required documents so we can secure your permits for Sagarmatha National Park and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality in Kathmandu or at the entrance points. Then efficiently pack, keeping in mind that you will have a duffle bag for your main gear and another small day bag with you for essentials like water, medication, and a camera. The key to preventing altitude sickness is keeping the body hydrated by carrying water and drinking often.

It will be much more helpful if you learn some basic Nepali phrases and be respectful of the local culture. This trek involves more than a simple visit to the basic viewpoint of Everest, consider an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar to adjust to the altitude.

For time-limited trekkers, a mountain flight taken from Kathmandu offers great views of Everest up close and captures the beauty of the region without an extensive trek. These preparations ensure a rewarding adventure in the majestic Everest region.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies on Short Everest View Trek

Altitude sickness or Acute Mountain Sickness is the major concern while trekking in the Khumbu region. Especially in this Short Everest View Trek, the elevation rises very fast. AMS basically occurs due to low oxygen levels at high altitudes and can show symptoms of headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and loss of sleep. Here are key tips to avoid and manage AMS effectively:

  • Drink plenty of water, hydration is important for acclimatization. Avoid alcohol since it dehydrates and increases symptoms.
  • Resting in Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters) allows your body to become acclimatized to the low level of oxygen. That will reduce your risk of AMS. For most trekkers who decide on a trek in the Khumbu region to go to higher altitudes, this is a necessary stop for acclimatization.
  • A diet with plenty of carbohydrates will keep you energetic and help in acclimatization.
  • There are medications like Diamox, which can prevent the AMS symptoms. Consult a doctor before taking this medication.
  • Walk rather slowly, rest frequently, and avoid hurrying, the steady pace puts less stress on the body.
  • In case of intensification of symptoms, such as shortness of breath or confusion, go downhill without any delay.

The rooms basically come with two single beds, each with a comfortable mattress, pillow, and a warm blanket to keep you warm during the night. A sleeping bag is rarely required, as most teahouse owners will provide extra blankets when needed.

Generally, the dining areas of the guesthouses are shared, and as such, this area is a great place to relax and chat with other trekkers. You will find fewer private restrooms as you go higher up. However, shared bathrooms are available and fairly clean. Some teahouses can also provide hot showers and Wi-Fi on request. Although it can be charged extra sometimes. Regarding the region of Everest, accommodation also provides complimentary charging outlets in common areas where you can keep your devices powered. A local favorite is Dal Bhat, a healthy Nepali meal of rice, lentils, and vegetables served in very generous portions with free refills. For health and hygiene reasons, we do recommend more vegetarian options. Meat on the mountain is not as fresh and may not be properly stored in some of the teahouses due to a lack of proper hygienic storage facilities.
