Overview

Yala Peak, standing at 5,732 meters is one of the popular trekking peaks located in the Langtang region of Nepal.  Yala Peak is situated within the Langtang National Park, in the Himalayan range of Nepal, north of Kathmandu. It’s accessible from Kathmandu via a bus or jeep ride to Syabrubesi, which serves as the starting point for treks in the Langtang region.

Yala Peak is considered a relatively moderate trekking peak, suitable for climbers with some prior trekking experience and basic mountaineering skills. While technical climbing skills are not typically required, climbers should be prepared for high altitude conditions and varied terrain.

The best time to climb Yala Peak is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is generally stable, with clear skies and mild temperatures. Climbing during the monsoon season (June to August) is not recommended due to heavy rainfall and increased risk of landslides.

Climbing Yala Peak requires obtaining permits from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Langtang National Park. Your trekking agency or guide will assist you in arranging the necessary permits.

The typical trekking route to Yala Peak starts from Syabrubesi and follows a trail through lush forests, picturesque villages, and alpine meadows. Key stops along the route include Lama Hotel, Langtang village, and Kyanjin Gompa, which serves as the base camp for Yala Peak.

Proper acclimatization is crucial for climbing at high altitudes. Trekkers typically spend a few days at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 meters) to acclimatize before attempting the summit of Yala Peak. Short hikes to nearby viewpoints, such as Tserko Ri, help climbers adjust to the altitude.

The climb from Kyanjin Gompa to Yala Peak usually takes one to two days. Climbers ascend gradually, navigating rocky terrain and possibly crossing snowfields. The final push to the summit involves some steep sections but is generally non-technical. From the summit, climbers are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
